Welcome to Our Revamped Website!
A Message from President Priti Joshi
You’ll see our familiar logo and favorite graphics, but also a renewed site that creates a dynamic space tailored to you! We envision this refreshed space as a place for visitors to return to often to learn about nineteenth-century British and colonial periodicals; to obtain inspiration, ideas, and collaborators; and to share news and tidbits.
Why A Redesign?
We had several goals for this update:
- To create a dynamic site that visitors come to for its refreshed offerings and leave excited about researching and teaching nineteenth-century British and colonial periodicals;
- To create a site that’s easier to navigate to not only find essential, single-use information (“when is that application due?”), but also for news, ideas, and even opportunities to find research partners/collaborators;
- To reflect our members’ interests, questions, and needs; and
- To meet current web accessibility protocols
This new design communicates, we hope, the excitement of studying nineteenth-century periodicals, showcases RSVP’s robust funding opportunities and their outcomes, and directs visitors to additional resources for the study and teaching of periodicals.
Some New Exciting Features
We envision the website as a space to learn, but also to contribute. For example, on every page you will find a Share Your News or Tidbits link, which allows members to share items that we will feature on our landing page or elsewhere. Meanwhile, our revamped Teaching with Periodicals and Research Resources sections will call on your expertise as we grow them.
I invite you to explore our new site — and to share your ideas.
Many, Many Thanks!
As you do, please join me in thanking the folks without whose energies and vision this revamp would not have happened:
- Fionnuala Dillane, our outgoing president, in the midst of all her other tasks, formed a committee, designed a survey of members, found a designer who met our needs, budget, and timeline, and set this process in motion.
- The committee — Troy Bassett, Sigrid Cordell, Paul Fyfe, Marion Grant, April Patrick, and Kaari Newman — brought their expertise and sharp eyes to the design and contents, ensuring that our new design meets web accessibility guidelines and provides a robust user experience (UX) on multiple platforms.
- Kaari Newman, RSVP’s Webmaster and Social Media Coordinator, spent many hours this summer implementing the committee’s decisions and updating or creating new pages.
- We are all very much indebted to two RSVP stalwarts who stepped up, on a very short timeline, to conceptualize the “Teaching with Periodicals” and the “Research Resources” pages: Iain Crawford and Patrick Leary, respectively.
- And finally, many thanks to Curt Rode, our consultant, for his work in guiding us to a dynamic new design, implementing our many ideas, and setting us up for ongoing success!
We hope you’ll enjoy our revamped space and return often to see what’s happening here at RSVP. Please do let us know if there’s any way we can help make your experience better!
Sincerely,
Priti Joshi
