The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (RSVP) is hiring a Digital Content Manager (DCM).

RSVP is a scholarly organization dedicated to promoting and supporting research in the periodical culture of Britain and its colonies in the long nineteenth century. We support an annual conference, an academic journal (Victorian Periodicals Review), and provide scholarly support to researchers (approximately $100,000 per year).

The Digital Content Manager will be responsible for managing RSVP’s digital external-facing presence, including operating the front and backend of our website and maintaining the organization’s presence on social media sites and beyond. Supervised by the Vice President, the DCM consults with the President and Treasurer as needed and collaborates with the Communications Coordinator.

The duties of the Digital Content Manager include:

  • Maintaining and updating the RSVP website content regularly and frequently, including announcements of events, deadlines, and outcomes; monitoring and sorting Share Your News submissions; and working with VP to generate content where needed
  • Maintaining and updating RSVP’s social media platforms (including researching alternatives as the landscape shifts) and YouTube channel and linking content to website
  • Managing the backend development and maintenance of all RSVP web properties to ensure their continued stability and security
  • Working with the VP to enhance RSVP’s external presence by developing best practices for search engine optimization

Successful applicants should be experienced with WordPress and web development, with navigating and maximizing an organization’s social media and YouTube presence, and should bring strong skills to optimize the organization’s digital presence. Candidates with experience studying or teaching nineteenth-century periodicals are especially welcome.

The work of the Digital Content Manager is estimated at 5 hours per week and paid at the rate of $25 per hour. We expect the position to begin in late-October (or sooner, as the position is filled).

RSVP is committed to an environment that welcomes and supports diversity. We seek diversity of identity, thought, perspective, and background.

Applicants should send a cover letter indicating their interest in and qualifications for the position, along with a 1-2-page cv, and the name and contact information of at least one reference (whom we will contact for applicants who clear the first round), to RSVP’s president, Priti Joshi by October 11, 2024.
