A Roundtable on the Transnational Press of the Long 19th Century
Our February Digital Event
Join the RSVP Digital Events committee on Friday, February 27, 2026 as we welcome the editors and several contributors to an exciting new collection of essays, The Edinburgh History of the Transnational British Press in Non-Anglophone Countries, 1800-1914 (2025). Per the publisher, “This volume explores the nineteenth-century transnational British press published in non-Anglophone countries across Europe, the Levant, the Mediterranean, Asia, and Latin America during a key period of press development and of British expansionism.” Adopting an approach that focuses on networks, circulation, and exchange, the volume pays special attention to the international trajectories and intercultural competencies of the transnational periodical press, its editors and staff, its function in connecting British expatriate communities and their host societies, and its status within the local, British, and global media ecosystems. As such, “it highlights the circulation and adaptation of press models across borders and broadens our understanding of what constituted the nineteenth-century British press.”
During this digital event, the volume’s two editors will introduce the project, and six contributors will give brief talks introducing their chapters, followed by discussion. We hope to see you there on Friday, February 27!
