How to Conference Effectively
A Professional Development Workshop
RSVP is pleased to kick off our fall Digital Events series by welcoming our 2026 conference committee members Jessica Valdez, Caroline Jones, and Sharin Schroder for a Professional Development Workshop on Conferences and Conferencing. This online event will take place Friday, 18 September at 8 a.m. PST / 11 a.m. EST / 4 p.m. BST / 5 p.m. CET.
Our speakers will give their top tips for succeeding in (and enjoying!) academic conferences, and take you behind the scenes to demystify how papers and panels are selected. Topics will include:
- Writing effective paper and panel proposals
- Handling the difference between delivering in-person and online talks
- Networking tips and tricks
- Making the most of your conference experience
This session is jointly sponsored by our Graduate Researchers and Independent Periodicals Scholars (GRIPS) organization. It will be chaired by GRIPS representatives Matthew Stephens and Gillian Walters. While aimed at graduate students and early career scholars, everyone is welcome! Seasoned conference-goers are particularly encouraged to come and share their wisdom during the discussion.
